What's your favorite scary movie? If it's that meta-horror favorite Scream, you're in luck: The Drunk Texts is going all in on Ghostface for a drunken Halloweekend live performance of Robert Price’s Thou Wilt Scream, a pseudo-Shakespearean adaptation that reimagines classical texts. ("You may have heard of these texts before, but you've never seen them like this," the show promises.)
On Saturday, October 28 at Under St. Mark's (94 St Marks Pl between First Ave and Ave A), a team of professional thespians will put a boozy twist on the classic Bard in a performance that combines drinking games, quickfire improvisation and audience participation.
The interactive evening lets audience members vote on who takes the next shot—yes, even the actors will be drinking, boldly going against the second rule of survival originally put forward in Wes Craven's 1996 horror classic, a.k.a. "Never drink or do drugs"—and can even volunteer for an impromptu cameo on stage. There will be blood...well, bloody good laughs, at least.
Tickets are $15 to attend but if you can't make the theatrical performance in person, you don't have to miss out: you can view Thou Wilt Scream via streaming for $10 (plus fees).
