The NYPL debuts a very New York exhibition “Love & Resistance," an ode to the 50th anniversary of The Stonewall Riots that spearheaded the LGBTQ civil rights movement and transformed the cause into a national coalition. Vintage images captured during 1969 by photojournalists Kay Tobin Lahusen and Diana Davies are on display beginning February 14th—formally known as Valentine’s Day.
Is there any opening date better suited for celebrating “love is love” than Cupid's holiday? We think not. But the real party starts a day later on Friday, February 15 during the library's after-dark bash that includes curator talks, trivia with Eric Marcus of the Making Gay History podcast, a Drag Queen Story Hour, a live DJ and more.
