The Fashion Institute of Technology and Macy’s are hosting a runway show on Wednesday, May 11, featuring looks created by a select group of 2022 graduates of FIT’s Fashion Design BFA program, spanning five concentrations—knitwear, sportswear, intimate apparel, special occasion, and childrenswear. Inspired by personal stories and address wide-ranging themes such as heritage appreciation, sustainability, gender-neutrality, accessibility, and mental health awareness, the fashions aim to express unique personal style. One student's look will be selected based on design quality, commercial appeal, and originality to be sold at the iconic Macy’s Herald Square store in New York City in fall 2022, including its own hang tag featuring the name, photo, and biography of the winning student. In addition, Suzanne Anderson, vice president of Design Apparel, and Michelle Wang, vice president of Retail Diversity Strategy, will select three looks for the Macy’s inaugural Bold Representation Awards, which will recognize Best Use of Sustainable Materials, Most Commercial Look, and Most Inclusive/Gender Neutral Design. The runway show will feature all the designs and will be judged by a panel of esteemed designers. The Future of Fashion will take place at FIT on the outdoor breezeway located on West 27th Street, between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Admission is by invitation only, with a livestream available to the public here.
