The Brooklyn Poetry Slam’s popular monthly event—a two-round performance poetry competition, where poets are given three minutes to read their own original work in the hope of being one of the five to advance to the second round and impress the judges—is celebrating seven years at Downtown Brooklyn cultural institution, BRIC. Held on Tuesday, July 2 from 6pm to 8pm at The Plaza at 300 Ashland (with Tuesday, July 16 set aside for a just-in-case rain date), the special evening will spotlight poetry and community, led by co-founders Mahogany L. Browne and Jive Poetic.
