This panel discussion features a mega-inspiring coterie of women whose experience in prison—either as workers or inmates—has inspired them to fight for criminal-justice reform. Panelists include Stacey McGruder, founder of Sisters That Been There, a support group for formerly incarcerated women; Vivian Nixon, an education advocate for women with criminal records; and Tina Reynolds, who founded Birthing Behind Bars, a project addressing pregnancy and parenting in jail. Piper Kerman, who knows a thing or two on the subject (her memoir, Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, inspired the Netflix series), moderates the discussion.
