Time Out says

Since 2002, the New York Improv Theatre has maintained a stellar reputation for their energetic and hilarious improvisation performances. Many of their programs are specifically geared toward helping children learn improv and build confidence on stage, like the Improv 4 Kids class. In this program, children ages four to seven will participate in a variety of theater games designed to help them enhance their creativity, build self-confidence, and become more effective communicators. There is also a Kids Comedy Camp available for older children (ages 6-17). Here, everyone will engage in a rigorous comedy curriculum each day consisting of warm up exercises, open-mic time, and performance games. Each day, students will practice their performances and receive feedback from others to perfect their individual stand up sets.

For adults, the Improv Comedy for Business Professionals is a popular choice. This beginner-friendly improv class is specifically targeted toward non–performers who want to improve their communication skills and gain comfort with public speaking. In this workshop, everyone will participate in a variety of games that will help them be more flexible and confident in the workplace. There is also an Intro to Improv Comedy workshop designed to help beginner comedians hone their unique comedic voice and develop their storytelling style.

The improv and comedy workshops at New York Improv Theatre have received rave reviews from former participants. Aspiring comedians report feeling like the environment was comfortable and safe for receiving feedback about their performances, allowing everyone the opportunity to improve their work without feeling criticized or embarrassed. The classes are energetic and the instructors are helpful and patient. For non-performers, the class for business professionals has received equally positive reviews. Many people report that the experience helped them step outside their comfort zone, learn new skills, and build their confidence. Several reviewers stated that they would be happy to attend a future improv workshop to continue building their skills and meeting like-minded people.
