After being delayed by Hurricane Sandy, this volunteer-run institution—located on the ground floor of long-occupied East Village tenement C-Squat—will officially open on Dec 8. The museum celebrates the area’s legacy of social activism, preserving artifacts and stories from events including the Tompkins Square Park Riot and the community garden battle, as well as recent movements such as Occupy Wall Street. Visitors can sample the space’s offerings, with afternoon tours of the collection and nearby green spaces, presentations by community organizers and an evening party with tunes by Rude Mechanical Orchestra.
