Grab a set of headphones and get ready to dance at this silent disco at the Park Avenue Underpass (between 124th and 125th Streets) in Harlem. Hear from a line-up of all/femme-identifying DJs including Crystal Simone, Duneska Saunnette, Dent, Robin Mark (aka DJ Poison Ivy), and Rimarkable.
When you need a break from the dancefloor, take a moment to have your picture taken by a pro photographer as part of a portrait photography series. Photos will be taken at the Metro North Harlem–125th Street underpass at 125th Street and Park Avenue station. Notable photographers such as Ayesha Kazim, Floradis Espinal and Maria J Hacket will offer community members free portraits.
Plus, the National Black Theatre (the group hosting the event) will release never-before-heard audio recorings from the 1970s titled "Chants of Liberation."
The event is hosted in partnership with Uptown Grand Central, Design Trust for Public Space's Turnout NYC initiative, and SITU. It's all about creating equitable arts access across the five boroughs.
Events will be held on three Saturdays, August 19, August 26, and September 2.
