Talk about a scary read.
For the second year, the New York Public Library is planning on holding an especially festive and frightful literary-themed Halloween party in the system’s landmark Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
The spooky night will include food and drinks, games and a live DJ in addition to a book-themed costume contest judged by Project Runway’s Tim Gunn, Gothamist’s Editorial Director Jen Carlson and Gwen Glazer and Frank Collerius, hosts of the New York Public Library’s podcast, The Librarian Is In. Up to 125 contestants are able to sign up for the library costume contest, and 10 finalists will be brought before the judges.
In addition to the ghoulish literary looks on display there will also be creepy—you guessed it—actual books. For one-night-only, the library will be displaying their scariest photographs, prints and truly terrifying texts. Alongside that, haunting 16mm films will also be pulled from the library’s archives and screened.
