Time Out says

Hunter College professor Janet Neary will examine the ways in which cultural constraints affect creative production in this 60- to 90-minute lecture. She'll compare 19th-century accounts written by ex-slaves with the visual art they inspired during the 1990s, when prominent artists such as Kara Walker, Glenn Ligon and Ellen Driscoll used these texts as a basis for their work. Advanced registration required.
