Try your hand at historic printing equipment during a "Fresh Prints" open houses hosted by Bowne & Co., the South Street Seaport Museum’s 19th century-style letterpress printers. On the first Thursday of every month, these workshops offer a chance to dive into the museum's printing history and graphic arts collection.
On Thursday, December 7 from 6pm to 7:30pm, head to the Bowne & Co. shop at 211 Water Street in the South Street Seaport Historic District to check out—and, yes, try out—historic moveable type, images and letterpress printing equipment. Plus, see how the pros lock up their own limited-edition designs for bespoke stationery, cards and more. Even better: anything you create and print during the free open house will be yours to take home, whether you want to explore metal type, linocuts or engravings.
Though the workshop is free, advance registration is required; all participants ages 12 and up are welcome to join.
