A Left Coast artist who lives and works in Grass Valley, CA, north of Sacramento, Nesbit specializes in roughly textured color-field abstractions made with acrylics pushed through the porous weave of stretched burlap, the artist’s surface of choice. The results look like thinly applied stains from a distance, but a closer inspection reveals the pigment erupting through the material’s mesh like a return of the repressed. The show also includes vertically configured, rodlike sculptures in white. Held in taught suspension between floor and ceiling by wires from both ends, these oddly attenuated, spectral objects resemble emaciated totem poles.
