About half of the 7,000 languages in the world will be extinct by the end of this century. Poets are gathering to give a voice to languages in danger of vanishing with a night of readings to highlight their significance. The event is also a way to support and celebrate the recent publication called Poems from the Edge of Extinction.
Chris McCabe will read his poems in his Scouse (Liverpudlian) accent, while Laura Tohe will present words in her Navajo Nation dialect, and Valzhyna Mort will read in Belarusian. Their words will be followed up by short films of an Irish and Rohingya poems, and Bob Holman, founder of the Endangered Language Alliance, will read his own poetry and talk about the work he and the ELA are doing. English translations will be provided for each poem.
