This “tropical fantasy dance club” is another entry in the thriving Bushwick scene—setting itself apart from its competitors with a legitimate sound system and consistently hot lineups of underground house and techno DJs manning the decks. The bar only opened its doors in December of 2012, but it's already made a big name for itself in the community, curating its own stage at Sustain-Release in September and hosting original techno pioneer Adam X on his Irreformable Album Tour in November. Cocktails made from freshly squeezed juice run for $10—but take advantage of their daily happy hour starting at 7pm. WorldStarDJs every night. 1271 Myrtle Ave at Hart St, Bushwick, Brooklyn (718-443-1271, bossanovacivicclub.com). Daily 5pm-4am.
Situated just off the L train, the neighborhood haunt is a comfy pit stop for both pregaming and post-partying. The snug hole-in-the-wall bar accommodates low-key pre-party cocktails or sleepy nightcaps with lush leather seats and extremely friendly (and good-looking) barkeeps. Pro tip: Ask for a shot of the exclusive El Buho mescal. 1037 Flushing Ave, Bushwick, Brooklyn (718-303-2047, narrowsbar.com). Daily 5pm-4am.
Clubs in Manhattan and Williamsburg may get the big headliners, but this all-ages space in Bushwick is one of the best spots in the city to see up-and-coming local indie-rockers. (The venue counts the Beets, Japanther, Titus Andronicus and No Joy among its past performers.) Shows start on the early side, but often continue into the wee hours. 20 Meadow St between Bogart and Waterbury Sts, Bushwick, Brooklyn (liveatsheastadium.com). Showtimes vary.
Those looking to hole up for a few hours and nurse a beer (or five) would do well to stop by this comic-book-themed bar, the walls of which are decked out with a geekworthy collection of superhero memorabilia. On Tuesdays, take advantage of the ridiculously cheap drink special: Well drinks are $4, and cans of PBR go for a buck. 1293 Myrtle Ave between Cedar St and Central Ave, Bushwick, Brooklyn (718-387-4182). Daily 5pm-4am.
Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.
