Dubbed "the hugging saint," Amma is an Indian spiritual leader and (much-garlanded) humanitarian whose admirers include Dr. Jane Goodall and Jim Carrey. She gives her blessing in the form of a hug, and it's estimated that Amma (now 60 years old) has embraced around 60 million people in the past few decades. She tours the world every year, and her city visits are pretty memorable: Thousands flock to the Javits Center to get a free hug, and to soak up the atmosphere (there's live Indian classical music) and feast on vegetarian Indian food.
