On September 11, 1776, British officials met with members of the Second Continental Congress on Staten Island in an attempt to bring a swift end to the American Revolution. Spoiler Alert: It didn't work. The meeting between British Admiral Lord Richard Howe and Americans John Adams, Ben Franklin and Edward Rutledge, while unsuccessful, is historically notable. A recreation of that meeting will take place at Staten Island's Conference House a few days shy of the event's 243rd birthday. After the recreation you can enjoy some Revolutionary Era music and dancing, as well as peruse some 18th-century crafts and go on a historic house tour.
