Designer Crabtree died of AIDS shortly before the opening of his outrageous gay fantasia in 1996, and composer Dick Gallagher followed in 2005. Librettist, director and co-conceiver Mark Waldrop planned to bring the musical back to the New York stage last year, but the production fell through at the last minute; now its cast finally gets a chance to strut its stuff in a one-night concert benefit for the Actors Fund.
