Located in the heart of Manhattan, the New York Performing Arts Academy (NYPAA) provides well-rounded training in acting, music, dance, and theater. Their programming is designed for those who wish to make performing their full-time career. For aspiring musical theater performers, NYPAA provides an intensive Art of Musical Performance course, which lasts four, eight, or 12 weeks, depending on which session you choose. Each lesson is designed to concentrate on a particular aspect of musical theater training, including things like audition preparation, vocal skills, breathing techniques, and tips on expressing emotion in a song. Throughout each class, students will receive immediate, targeted feedback on their work.
Also available in four, eight, or 12 weeks is the Acting for Stage, Film & TV seminar. In this program, students focus on different acting techniques in order to adapt their performance for both stage and screen. The workshop also teaches students the art of character development to help bring their roles to life. There is also a scene study component to this program, where students are assigned a scene to analyze and perform. The acting seminars at NYPAA are ideal for those with busy schedules because classes are only 90 minutes per week. Classes are suitable for performers of all levels since even the most skilled performer needs help getting to the next level. In addition to their longer seminars, NYPAA also offers weekly and monthly dance packages in ballet, hip-hop, and contemporary dance.
Former NYPAA students have very positive things to say about their time at the academy. Students feel that the classes here are worth the time and money since they learn skills that are directly applicable to improving skills and booking auditions. Many students report that these seminars helped them gain confidence in their abilities and that they left the classes with a greater appreciation for the performing arts as a whole.
