Matthew Spangler's drama, adapted from Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling 2003 novel, spans decades of change in Afghanistan—including the Soviet and Taliban periods—in the story of an emigré haunted by guilt about a violent incident in his childhood. The play has flown around the world since its 2009 premiere, and hit the West End in 2016; now it makes its Broadway debut at the cozy Helen Hayes Theatre. Giles Croft directs a cast led by Amir Arison and Faran Tahir.
