The inventive, queer-edged NYC company Heartbeat Opera presents its ninth annual fusion of classical music and drag. This time, the troupe sends up Puritanism in a pilgrim pageant created by Jacob Ashworth and director Nico Krell. The score includes selections by composers including Mozart, Britten, Copland, Donizetti and John Adams—some of them outfitted with saucy new lyrics—and, of course, the pretty bridal aria from Bellini's I Puritani. The arrangements are by musical director Dan Schlosberg, and the over-the-top costumes are by David Quinn.
