The Bushwick Starr, one of the essential Off-Off venues for innovative new work, continues the first season at its new location with a solo piece by created and performed by Ian Andrew Askew and produced in partnership with ¡Oye! Group. In abold exploration of Blackness in culture—described as existing "somewhere between performance art, a rock show and an one-act opera"—Askew adapts texts by the likes of Nina Simone and Audre Lorde to new sounds including drums, distorted vocals and a handmade one-string bass.
