City Center's summer series Encores! Off-Center concludes with a concert staging of this beloved 1980 show (adapted from a 1975 animated special), a Gen X nostalgia machine that marries children's stories by Maurice Sendak with original tunes by Carole King. The loose plot involves an irrepressible Brooklyn girl who dreams of stardom and tries to assemble a show with her friends; musical highlights include "Pierre," "The Ballad of Chicken Soup," "Avenue P" and "Screaming and Yelling."
