Playwright Rick Elice and directors Roger Rees and Alex Timbers try to have it all in this wondrous, clever, jumbled hurly-burly, adapted from a best-selling 2004 prequel to Peter Pan. The design and cast (led by Adam Chanler-Berat, Cleia Keenan-Bolger and Christian Borle) are first-rate, but the show tries to be everything: a children’s play for adults, a period piece with modern jokes, a musical with hardly any songs. It may still have some growing up to do.—Adam Feldman
