The York Theatre Company's New2NY series, which offers spare stagings of original musicals, presents an original work adapted from The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas's swashbuckling 1840s novel of betrayal, treasure, revenge and romance. The show is the brainchild of librettist Peter Kellogg and composer Stephen Weiner (who also wrote Penelope, or How The Odyssey Was Really Written, which the York produced in 2022). Peter Flynn directs a weeklong run at the Theater at St. Jean’s, where York is still squatting as it waits for its regular home space to recover from a flood. The cast includes Philip Hernandez, Lauren Worsham, Alex Humphreys, Daniel Yearwood, Trent Saunders and Anne L. Nathan.
