John Malkovich played the lecherous Valmont in Stephen Frears's superb 1988 film of Christopher Hampton's witty 1985 drama, adapted from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's 1782 epistolary novel about decadent aristos of the ancien régime. Now Malkovich directs a French-language version at Lincoln Center Festival, starring Yannik Landrein and Julie Moulier.
