Han!

Hyun Ju Baek performs—yes—a han solo: her one-person dance-theater meditation on a uniquely Korean state of mind that involves resentful and/or hopeful sadness related to past suffering. The piece explores this emotion as it manifests in three generations of Korean women. Thomas Richards directs the piece for his new company, Theatre No Theatre, which is dedicated to extending the "poor theater" innovations of his longtime mentor and collaborator, the Polish experimentalist Jerzy Grotowski.
