Broadway musicals were tackling American history long before Hamilton came along, perhaps most famously in Sherman Edwards and Peter Stone's hit 1969 survey of the factious drafting of the Declaration of Independence. Garry Hines directs the show for City Center's invaluable concert-revival series; Santino Fontana and John Behlmann lead the cast as John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, respectively, and John Larroquette plays Ben Franklin.
