The gruff comedian Colin Quinn tries to find humor in the rise and fall of empires in this work-in-progress solo show. If it sounds like the gruff Saturday Night Live vet is trying to make a profound statement about the current state of America and the world, he is. But his play—an extended riff unfussily directed by Jerry Seinfeld—provokes guffaws rather than great thoughts with its parade of familiar (yet often quite amusing) jokes about race and religion, rulers and runts.—Raven Snook
