Carnegie Hall mounts a benefit concert of the witty 1956 musical Candide, a mock-operatic romp through Voltaire's satirical picaresque, with a score by Leonard Bernstein (and a raft of different librettists) and a rewritten book by Hugh Wheeler. Paul Appleby plays the titular naïf opposite Erin Morley as his often-lost love and John Lithgow as their rosy-eyed instructor.
