Bread & Puppet Theater: Ophelia & The Apocalypse Defiance Circus

Cue the brass band! Slice the garlic bread! Hoist the papier-mâché! Peter Schumann's legendary agitprop puppet group, founded in 1963, returns for its annual New York visit, this time with two shows: Ophelia (Dec 8–11), a remix of Hamlet that centers on the play's doomed ingenue; and The Apocalypse Defiance Circus (Dec 14–18), a raucous puppet spectacle of protest.
