Bread and Puppet Theater

Cue the brass band! Slice the garlic bread! Hoist the papier-mâché! Peter Schumann's legendary agitprop puppet group, founded in 1963, returns for its annual New York visit, this time with two shows: The Or Else Opera (Dec 5–9), an antifascist pageant featuring music by Hanns Eisler and text by Bertolt Brecht; and The Grasshopper Rebellion Circus (Dec 13–16), a raucous puppet spectacle in which angelic grasshoppers teach ICE agents to dance.
