Angels in America

Tony Kushner’s two-part, seven-hour masterwork is infused with surreal flights of mythopoetic fancy and an ecstatic, progressive vision that resonates in the 21st century. Even in Michael Greif’s sometimes cramped and busy chamber staging, Angels retains the power to shock, enlighten and delight. If you had reservations about the revival's first cast, there's good news: Replacement actors Adam Driver, Michael Urie and Keira Keeley find shocking tenderness, wit and clarity in their roles, making a strong argument for a second ascent into heaven.—David Cote
