Christina Hemphill's original musical, about homeless people and sex workers in a slummy area of Oregon's biggest city, aims to hearken back to the dark style of 1930s and 1940s musicals like The Threepenny Opera and The Cradle Will Rock. Jay Michaels directs this ambitious effort, which touches on questions of intolerance, grief, sex trafficking and domestic violence.
