John Gould Rubin directs a bold adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's 1879 door-slamming drama, a protofeminist classic about a woman whose marriage crumbles under financial duress. Royston Coppenger's new translation, commissioned by the Brooklyn Center for Theater Research, renders the dialogue in modern language and shines light on the gendered and sexually charged role play of the central couple (played by Sarah Wharton and Stephen Dexter).
