A mini designers’ row is cropping up just off the East River in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and this warehouse full of sleek, contemporary home furnishings is the latest to join the interior-lighting and antique-furniture stores dotting the block. World Modern Design is chock-full of futuristic-looking sofas ($1,100–$2,000), daybeds ($1,200–$2,000) and coffee tables ($300–$700) that would fit right in at a Philippe Starck hotel. Most notable is the collection of unique chaise lounges and chairs, well-sized for tiny New York apartments. You’d be hard-pressed to distinguish the real deal from retro Eames-inspired white plastic rocking chairs with wood runners ($150), Saarinen look-alike fiberglass-top dining tables ($699) and Verner Panton doppelgänger heart cone chairs ($550)—though your bank account will certainly be able to tell the difference.
