Before it was trendy to set up shop on the Lower East Side, Terri Gilles opened the original TG170 boutique in 1992. As gentrification would have it, the neighborhood that Gilles helped to pioneer as an edgy-chic shopping destination has become too expensive, forcing Gilles to move her operation down the street to a calmer stretch of Ludlow. The new space is a bit more pared down than the previous glammed-up one with clean white walls and whitewashed wood finishing. But rest assured, you can still find the same stock of indie designers that TG170 is known for: Humanoid knit cowl-neck dresses ($271), Surface to Air cropped silk blouses ($277) and Yoshi Kondo Chanel-esque wool coats ($660).
