Best known for their hand-made chocolates, Roni-Sue’s Chocolates also offers a few public cooking classes for chocolate lovers who want to learn how to make their own decadent treats. In the Make and Take Truffle workshop, Roni-Sue herself guides students through the process of making their own rich chocolate ganache from scratch. Participants will learn several applications for their ganache and how to add custom flavors tailored to their individual tastes. At the end of the class, students will roll and finish a dozen truffles to take home and enjoy.
Students who would prefer to simply eat chocolate rather than make it might enjoy one of Roni-Sue’s tasting courses instead. The Guided Craft Chocolate Tasting discusses the process of making chocolate from the bean to the bar. Students will also learn some facts about the history of chocolate, as well as current sustainable practices and the differences between craft chocolate shops and major chocolate corporations, all while sampling a whopping 24 different chocolate samples. There is also a Wine and Chocolate Pairing workshop that teaches students how to create their own surprising pairings of wine and chocolate to ensure each unique flavor is enhanced by the other.
Prioritizing both high-quality ingredients and ethical chocolate sourcing practices, Roni-Sue (Rhonda Kave) opened her chocolate shop in 2007. She is also the co-founder of a chocolate company in Belize, where chocolate is made by local vendors so shoppers can feel good about their purchases. Additionally, Roni-Sue’s Chocolates partners with many local charities in an effort to improve their community.
Classes at Roni-Sue’s Chocolates have received extremely positive feedback from former participants. Students report that the classes are fun and entertaining, with the main complaint being that the classes are only an hour. Roni-Sue and her co-instructors are knowledgeable about their craft, and their passion for chocolate shines through as they share all kinds of interesting tips and tricks for perfecting chocolate at home. The classes are recommended for dates, team building events, or just a unique night out for a group of friends.
