Opened as a means of reducing spending and waste from TV, film and commercial set props, Film Biz Recycling operates as the leading donation site for used set items in the film business, and now they’ve opened PROPS, an annex accessible to the public consumer. Here you can sift through nearly brand-new items that may have been worn or used by celebs, and pay less than half of the retail price. While the Hollywood glam factor might lure you in, this business is meant to divert waste and offer a home for otherwise landfill-bound items. “We’re not carding at the door, but I don’t want to talk celebrity bullshit with you,” founder Eva Radke says. “If you’re cool—and I’m underscoring cool—I might tell you who wore or sat in what you’re buying.” Funky gems include an array of mirrors, lamps and kitchen supplies, tons of salt-and-pepper shakers, clothing, jewelry, tools, and even boxes designated by category and labeled accordingly—GAY PRIDE IN A BOX and CHRISTMAS IN A BOX. And quit searching for price tags—everything in this prop house is negotiable. “Just make us an offer, and we’ll work with you,” says Radke. With new pieces coming in and carefully selected for display at least twice a week, you can redecorate your home in half the time and at half the price.
