This high-end Japanese brand has opened a new outpost in West Chelsea, just a six-minute walk from the original storefront (y’know, in case two blocks after leaving the first shop you regret not buying one of those heart-print graphic sweatshirts). This joint is regarded as a “convenience store” for more affordable CDG accessories and fragrances, and much like a well-stocked bodega, the no-frills spot is easy to maneuver but not a place to linger. The bulk of merchandise includes pocket-size items from the brand’s Play collection, which are piled high in the grab-and-go space. And sure, your gut instinct might be to mindlessly reach for one of Rei Kawakubo’s leather wallets ($210), throw down some cash and book it, but for the sake of your bank account, we suggest going for a pair of Play x Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star ’70’s ($125) or a super soft Gold Heart T-shirt ($96) instead.(Or get them all! Sorry, we’re a bad influence.)
