Sixty years ago, Nathan Clark designed a now-famous—and often imitated—men’s shoe modeled after a style made in Cairo bazaars that became popular with British army officers. Since then, the desert boot has developed a cult following, although Clarks has branched out beyond the iconic make to offer comfortable footwear for men and women in its 250 retail stores nationwide. In this modern boutique (the brand’s second in NYC), you’ll find ladies’ studded-leather open-toe wedges ($100), guys’ British flag chukkas ($135) and low-cut leather lace-up desert boots ($135) displayed on green nesting tables.
