Jerusalem native Yinon Badichi opened his first belt shop in Tel Aviv ten years ago and has since expanded to New York, where you can custom-create your own waist-cincher. First, select a leather band ($40–$60) from the dozens available in every color and print imaginable. Next, choose your buckle ($20–$225); styles range from classic silver and stainless steel designs with prongs to more unusual shapes like handcuffs, sunglasses, cassette tapes and revolvers ($50 each). If you’ve got more than a few clams to spare, consider picking out a snazzy buckle, like Israeli designer Merav Schwartz’s hand-painted mosaic-style ones ($95), from a display on a green chalkboard wall. Once you’ve made your selections, a staff member fits and assembles your belt in about two minutes. Overwhelmed by all the decisions? Badichi also sells ready-made simple leather credit-card holders ($25) and wallets ($50), plus a house line of leather cuffs, which you can get unembellished ($25) or adorned, gothic-style, with silver spikes ($45).
