Designer Adam Lippes has had a busy few years: After leaving his top-brass creative post at Oscar de la Renta in 2004 to launch his own label of refined cotton basics, the Buffalo native quickly earned a celebrity following, snagged a Council of Fashion Designers of America induction and opened his first retail store in the West Village. Lippes wanted his second shop in NYC to have a homey feel, and has stocked it with decorative antiques, books and beautiful objets d’art to complement his timeless women’s clothing. Inspired by the National Museum of the American Indian, the current collection’s offerings include thick knits ($395–$425) and ponchos ($245–$425) in rich cobalt and deep reds. Heavyweight woolen wraps with buckle closures ($795), skirts adorned with short feathers ($495), long-sleeved patterned wool sweaters with fringe detail ($395) and sleeveless V-neck tulle party dresses ($695) mark a gorgeous departure from the understated cotton designs for which Lippes is known.
