Zlata Praha—”golden Prague”—is a Central European haven in central Astoria, and you’re the tourist: Very little English is spoken, and the walls are decorated with traditional folk costumes, old currency and pictures of Prague. Zlata Praha’s rustic, filling chow references many Eastern European nations—there’s a Hungarian salami and goulash and “Slovak-style” pierogi—but the Czech platter for two is one of the best deals going: smoked pork, flavorful pork loin and half a crisp roasted duck. Three types of cabbage and doughy “bread dumplings”—steamed sourdough slices—guarantee a satisfied stomach.
