A breakfast food most commonly enjoyed in Venezuela and Colombia, arepas are a bread-like patty traditionally served with foods such as cheese and avocado. At White Maize, the arepa takes centre stage–and comes with a huge array of extra toppings, including beef, beans, chorizo, shrimp, octopus, steak, tomato, onion, peppers and more. They also serve up ‘bowl’ sides, various appetizers and desserts, all inspired by Venezuelan cuisine.
Found on Smith Street in Brooklyn, this spot relatively inexpensive. The interior is compact, simple, and rustically-styled, with warm hanging lights and wooden features. White Maize also has gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options–so fussy eaters are all catered for.
