Greater Manhattan didn’t need another steakhouse, but the culinary wasteland around 34th Street and Ninth Avenue sure did. The name was already quasi-familiar; there’s a Jack’s in Queens, which Mayor Bloomberg has been known to frequent. He’s an ideal customer because Jack’s high-quality steaks come with correspondingly high prices ($37 and up). Jack’s also proudly pushes its kobe selection, which includes a T-bone, a New York strip, a sirloin, a filet mignon, a burger and the whopping three-pound $200 porterhouse for two. As you might expect, the place has all the trappings of a classic carnivore lair: leather chairs, lots of wood, large booths and red velvet curtains.
