Emma Hearst and Sarah Krathen, of the perpetually packed Sorella, expand with this adjacent café and gelateria. The sunny, pint-size shop features a marble bar surrounded by eight walnut stools. Here the spotlight is on the baroque ice cream flavors, popularized at the restaurant, such as chunky Sorella (salted caramel gelato with chocolate-covered pretzels and a fudge swirl); chunky Stellina (raspberry buttermilk gelato with white-chocolate-covered waffle cones and a raspberry swirl); and Bananimal (banana gelato with animal crackers and caramel). Fuel up on Counter Culture coffee, including standard brews plus affogato (ice cream scoops doused with hot espresso) and bicerin, an Italian hot-chocolate-and-espresso drink topped with frothy cream.
