Slice is refreshingly virtuous for a pizza joint—but be prepared for a manifesto with your meal: A large blurb painted on the wall echoes the restaurant’s smug moniker. The menu courts health nuts with whole-wheat crusts and organic mozzarella, and accommodates many diets, from vegan to gluten-free. Start with a mesclun salad tossed with sesame-laced carrot-ginger dressing and follow it up with a wholesome, rectangular pizza. The winning Miki is topped with pesto, smoky free-range-chicken sausage, sharp goat cheese, and fresh tomato and basil. But not every pie succeeds: The Taste of India version, scattered with mozzarella and Indian-spiced chickpeas, was rather heavy, counteracting the restaurant’s promise of feel-good food.
