Straight-up Mexican food it's not—instead, this provocatively-named gastropub from longtime Harlem restaurateur Brian Washington-Palmer (Monkey Room, La Bodega 47) is dealing in melting-pot Californian street fare, with dishes ranging from Venezuelan-style braised lamb tacos to Korean short ribs with gochujang-infused salsa roja. (And, like in Cali, all dishes are available "nekkit," a.k.a. sans tortilla and sub in rice or romaine.) In the attached bar area, papered with posters of Pam Grier and illuminated with stage-lit block letters spelling out the word FOX, colorful cocktails include a tequila-based Kermit’s Revenge (avocado, agave) and the gin-forward Foxy Brown tamed with Giffard menthe pastille, coconut syrup and pineapple juice.
