Last night, twenty of the city's top patty-slinging establishments battled live at South Street Seaport for the coveted title of Time Out New York’s Battle of the Burger champion. For five hours, the Amstel flowed like water, grills fired up mountains of beef and 2,500 readers cast ballots for their favorite meaty creation. After the smoke had settled, it was Staten Island's Standard Burger that garnered the most votes, announced by our own Food and Drink editor Christina Izzo, with their beyond-standard concoction: a primo blend of ground chuck, short rib and brisket, blanketed in Hillside Farms’ cheese on a potato roll.
Thanks to the readers (now bona fide burger experts) who played a part in Gotham's biggest cookout, and to Amstel Light, for keeping the palates fresh all night. Another shout out to our great partners who helped bring the night together: Schweid & Sons, Seaport District NYC, Smorgasburg, event design company Twenty Three Layers, Bear Naked, Water Taxi, Kulfi Co., Core Hydration and Uber. Congratulations, Standard Burger—the well-earned crown is all yours. At least until next year, when we fire up those grills—and our appetites—again.
