Danny Meyer already has the Modern—a major museum concession—in his repertoire, but this pop-up café, set to debut at the Whitney Biennial’s Thursday 25 launch, won’t just serve food: It’ll also be part of the exhibit. That’s because architect Jeffrey Inaba’s design firm has been commissioned to create the lower-gallery space, which will include elements like light fixtures and seats in a variety of sizes. Many of Union Square Hospitality Group’s chefs (Michael Anthony, Daniel Humm, Floyd Cardoz and more) will create their own signature sandwiches for the venue. Sandwiched will continue to operate until fall, when a more permanent café operated by USHG will open.
